Many Latino immigrant clients approach the financial institution that requested this learning experience with a deep commitment to becoming homeowners. Unfortunately, the majority of them lack the financial and legal education necessary to purchase a house in the United States. Since this challenge was preventing the financial institution from tapping into this particular market, it decided to invest in developing customer education for their prospective clients. As a result, this short learning course focuses on teaching prospective clients on how they can qualify for a home mortgage, even if they only hold an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).

I interviewed the organization's SMEs who helped pinpoint its clients' key learning gaps that prevent some clients from purchasing a house. The SMEs identified were the financial institution's employees who worked closely with clients, such as its real estate agents. I also looked at existing data on clients’ demographics and assembled a focus group of existing clients. After gathering and analyzing the data, I developed a course outline to address the main learning gaps identified. I decided to create a microlearning course, given the clients’ busy schedules and limited ability to devote time to learning.
Once the outline was created, I leveraged the data gathered from the analyze phase to flesh out the storyboard for the course. To ensure that the content would successfully target the key learning gaps identified, I partnered with the financial institution’s SMEs in drafting and editing the storyboard. Through this partnership, we decided to include more explainer videos than activities in the course due to the target audience's preference to listen to videos in learning new content when they are doing things like commuting to work and/or cooking/cleaning. Additionally, since many of them have multiple competing life priorities, they don’t necessarily have the time or capacity to complete educational activities.
Since this microlearning course had more explainer videos than educational activities, I decided to use Articulate Storyline instead of Articulate Rise to create the course. I relied on the Adobe Stock library for all images and stock footage used, and I created the explainer videos in Adobe Premiere Pro. I also used PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva to create all avatars, backgrounds, and graphics used in the course and scenario activity.
As with the other courses, in hindsight, I would’ve put my explainer videos through Auphonic to equalize the explainer videos’ audio. Additionally, for a cleaner look, I would have gotten stock footage from free video platforms like Pexels that didn’t have a company sign like Adobe.
