The financial institution that requested this learning experience reported an increased number of customer support tickets on issues related to conducting online banking. Given that the financial institution was trying to tap into a historically overlooked market of BaaS users with limited tech literacy, it decided to invest in customer education to teach these users how to conduct basic banking tasks. As a result, this short learning course focuses on teaching users the basics of banking - key banking terminology, the differences and similarities between virtual and physical cards, as well as how to use bank accounts to set up and pay credit cards.

To address the financial institution’s challenge, I identified the SMEs to interview who would help me pinpoint the main learning gaps that users have in using the company’s BaaS products. The SMEs identified were the financial institution's employees who worked closely with clients, such as its customer service and success teams. I also looked at existing data on clients’ demographics and assembled a focus group of existing clients. After gathering and analyzing the data, I developed a course outline to address the main learning gaps identified. I decided to create a microlearning course given the clients’ busy schedules and limited ability to devote time to learning.
Once the outline was created, I leveraged the data gathered from the analyze phase to flesh out the storyboard for the course. To ensure that the content would successfully target the learning gaps identified, I partnered with the financial institution’s SMEs in drafting and editing the storyboard. Through this partnership, we decided to include step-by-step videos and guides– in addition to explainer videos and activities–to provide more targeted support on how to conduct the main online banking tasks that users were having trouble with.
Since not all users had the learning gaps targeted by this microlearning course, I decided to create the course in Articulate Rise so learners could decide which short lessons to take. Additionally, given that there were more step-by-step guides included in this course, creating it in Articulate Rise made more sense than Articulate Storyline.
I used Vyond to create the animated portion of the story in the initial explainer video, and I created all the avatars and graphics used within Vyond's free library for this portion. For the sections featuring the narrator, I used Adobe Premiere Pro and sourced the background with Adobe Stock. I created the logo using Illustrator and joined them together with Adobe Express.
I also relied on the Adobe Stock library for all images and stock footage used, and I created the explainer videos in Adobe Premiere Pro. I also used PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva to create all avatars, backgrounds, and graphics used in the course and scenario activity.
