Context

The newly founded organization launched its pilot program to provide training sessions to first-year teachers of color across the United States. National recruitment efforts were made to assemble the first cohort, and the onboarding sessions took place a month after the selected cohort members confirmed their participation. 

Challenges

Research indicates that nearly 50% of first-year teachers leave the teaching profession immediately after their first year of teaching. Unfortunately, this statistic is even higher for first-year educators of color. 

Solutions

In an effort to retain more teachers of color, the program aimed to provide tailored money coaching and professional development to a group of first-year teachers of color across the country through a virtual platform. This presentation was the first session provided to the cohort.

Results

100% of the participants reported that the onboarding session was "highly effective" and that the session was so thorough that none of them had any questions post-session. Furthermore, 100% of the program participants have remained in the classroom for 4 years now.
