Client: Public charter school in Southern California
Context
This public charter school in Southern California has a substantial number of teachers of color. One of the school's priorities for the 2023-2024 school year was to improve teacher wellness, particularly for its teachers of color.
Challenges
One of the key teacher wellness issues that the school's teachers requested was financial education - they expressed that cost of living in Southern California was extremely high, and so they often felt financially stressed and like they couldn't advance financially with their teacher salary.
Solutions
The school's community school coordinator had applied for and was awarded a grant that allowed the school to hire external resources to improve its teacher wellness. Given the teachers' request for financial literacy, the school coordinator partnered with us to provide their teachers with tailored financial literacy training. After being presented with a list of financial education topics that the training could cover, the teachers voted on learning about the stock market since they wanted to learn how to build wealth on a teacher salary in a high cost of living area.
Results
100% of teachers rated this training as highly beneficial, and 70% of them began to invest in the stock market post-training.
